Baufritz is the subject of a recent case study by the renowned International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was written by Dr Manuel Braun, entrepreneur, author and sustainability expert, together with Dr Julia Binder, and highlights the active role played by Baufritz in shaping the transformation to circular, sustainable construction.
The case study shows how Baufritz under its fourth-generation CEO Dagmar Fritz-Kramer has evolved from a conventional housebuilder into a designer of sustainable construction and living systems. It has achieved this through the consistent use of timber, a high degree of prefabrication and modular construction, and fostering innovation in retrofitting buildings, serial renovations and neighbourhood development.
The authors emphasise how Baufritz combines environmental responsibility, healthy living and high quality with scalable solutions, embracing new market segments such as apartment blocks, public buildings and building within existing structures. The study sees Baufritz as a pioneer of circular business models in the construction industry and shows how ecosystems based on strong partnerships, innovation in materials and taking a long-term perspective can bring about system change.
