2026 marks the tenth anniversary of a very special project. Built in 2016, Haussicht is considered an icon of modern timber-frame construction. This show home was the result of a meeting that almost didn’t take place. It all started with a letter from Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli to Baufritz CEO Dagmar Fritz-Kramer, in which he suggested they meet to discuss a new idea. But the letter never arrived. When they finally met years later, they discovered that they both shared the same vision: to create a new concept of sustainable timber-frame construction that takes sustainable, healthy timber architecture to a new level.
Even after ten years, the architecture is as fresh and surprising as ever. Inspired by a ship’s hull, it is an homage to Häberli’s passion of sailing. Featuring expansive, flowing and light-filled spaces without visible supporting beams, it is a testament to outstanding craftsmanship. The house is designed “upside-down” with the parents’ and children’s bedrooms downstairs and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area above. The name “Haussicht” is a compound of the German words “Haus” (house) and “Aussicht” (outlook). Fully glazed on three sides and with a sweeping, wrap-around terrace that also acts as a bridge to the adjoining granny flat, it offers wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. In the basement is a wine cellar that, in the words of Dagmar Fritz-Kramer, sums up the concept: “Good company, good food, good drink, good friends”.
