We are proud to announce that we have received the "Best Use of Timber Frame" Award in the 2013 Build It Awards. Organised by leading self-build consumer magazine Build It, these are one of the most important awards for the self-build and construction industry.
The Build It Awards celebrate all aspects of self build and renovation, and bring together architects, manufacturers and key industry figures in recognition of innovation and excellence in the custom home sector. Baufritz was short-listed for two Awards: "Best Architect" and "Best Use of Timer Frame". We overcame stiff competition from around the UK in the "Best Use of Timber Frame" category for our beautiful new home for Christine and Duncan Penny in Cookham Dene, Berkshire.
Christine and Duncan asked Baufritz to build a high quality, contemporary home that would serve the needs of them and their family better than the existing house on the site. Sustainability was a key criterion, and their new house exceeds Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes thanks to a wide range of environmentally friendly features. Speed was also important as the family needed to move out of their home during construction. Here our timber frame technology came into its own: construction of the external shell took only three days and the family were able to move into their beautiful new home shortly afterwards.
Duncan and Penny were attracted to Baufritz not only because of their reputation for exceptional custom-designed timber framed houses, but also for their ability to handle everything through design, planning and construction – no easy achievement in a Conservation Area. The German precision of the company’s construction techniques was also a major attraction for the couple who said: "A normal house built in England wouldn’t be the same quality. Everything works so efficiently, everything is so square and millimetre perfect. We really enjoy living here."
The awards were presented at a ceremony hosted by actor and comedian Alan Davies, and the winning projects will be featured in the next issue of Build It magazine.
