"Crossland is a benchmark of how creative architectural design, coupled with the flexibility of timber frame prefabricated manufacturing, results in a luxurious, sustainable and breathtaking family home. An innate understanding of design principles led the transformation of a lacklustre bungalow on an irregular plot into a bold new construction binding the house to its natural surroundings."

Modern House Crossland

Transforming the site of a claustrophobic bungalow into a spacious, open, light filled modern home

This site overlooking a beautiful bay in Jersey, was once home to an ordinary bungalow, which unforgivably failed to take advantage of its location. Demolishing the bungalow and replacing it with a house designed to optimise the spectacular views was the obvious path. Godel Architects, a local firm, was commissioned and the concept of Crossland took shape. Crossland is split over three levels, each opening out onto landscaped courtyards, sweeping terraces and patios. This not only places the panoramic views centre stage, but also creates a natural flow between floors.

The basement, carved into the hillside, houses a secluded swimming pool, leading onto an outdoor patio, wine tasting room and wine store. The plant room and storage areas occupy the rear, where natural light is limited. A spiral staircase and lift provide access to the communal living space, with its expansive open living, cooking and dining areas. Three ensuite guest bedrooms occupy one wing, whilst the other houses a gym and home cinema. The main entrance and double garage are at the rear. On the first floor, offering a private sanctuary and boasting the most dramatic views, is the master bedroom and terrace. A spacious bathroom and convenient dressing room complete the space. Despite Crossland's grand scale, energy consumption is pleasingly modest. Our innovative approach to sustainable building combines triple glazed glass, patented HOIZ insulation and unique prefabrication manufacturing method to create an especially airtight building, paired with photovoltaic and air source heat pumps, to earn an impressive A+ energy rating. Crossland blends non-conformist architecture with the flexibility and quality of Baufritz's manufacturing process to create a clean, modern luxury house. Even with its elevated position and scale Crossland successfully retains an intimate, homely feel. Jersey's stunning coastal landscape has a sensational new landmark to match.
