"The principle shape of the building is as classical and restrained as the carefully coordinated details are extravagant and impressive. The absolute eye-catching feature is the house's fully glazed western front."

Modern house Steffen

A dream in wood, glass and stone

More or less by chance, and certainly with a great degree of good fortune, the Steffen family, who had lived abroad for many years, were offered the opportunity to acquire a plot of land in a wonderful location close to Frankfurt. They did not need long to decide to build a new home there. Joachim Steffen is originally from southern Bavaria. He had been aware of the Baufritz brand since his youth, and one thing was certain: "If we build a house, then we do it with Baufritz."
During the initial design phase, the architect and the Steffen family collaborated very closely, until every last detail had been finalised and every last wish fulfilled. Everything was carefully coordinated, with considerable effort and understanding of design. The post-and-beam construction with energy-efficient profiles, together with a load-bearing wood structure, enable the house's highly impressive glass-centric architecture. The fully glazed western façade of the building is set in hand-cut natural stone. Visually, wood, glass and stone are the dominant elements. It is a contemporary and elegant combination that exudes lightness and harmony. In addition, the steep pitched roof underscores the house's classic-yet-extravagant architectural language.
The glazed western façade of the modern house not only exerts a significant impact on the overall external appearance of the building, it also influences the look-and-feel of the interiors. These flow seamlessly into each other, while the floor-to-ceiling windows open up the rooms to the outside. Throughout the building, the family enjoys breath-taking views of the gently rolling hills of southern Hesse – when dining with friends, enjoying a late sundown drink on the patio, having a relaxing bath or during a yoga session in the studio.
