"This eco house wants to merge traditional and modern elements. Because of that, the idea of combining a far overhanging roof with generous glass fronts emerged. Triple-glazed aluminium-clad wooden windows allow plenty of light into the house and give the residents a feeling of being part of the surrounding nature. A fireplace divides the living room into two open areas and creates romantic moments in winter."

highly energy efficient house

The Schauer house is located in Southern Germany, in a picturesque village about one hour's drive south of Munich. It was designed and built by Baufritz, the ecological pioneers of timber frame building. Its glass and larch wood façade gives the house a stylish and contemporary feel.
It is a highly energy efficient house, which incorporates 185 sqm of living space, designed for a couple who appreciate large open plan living areas. Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen, living and dining room, an office and a utility room.
The upstairs comprises a large master bedroom with a generous dressing room and en-suite bathroom with panoramic views to the mountains through a glass gable and from a balcony running along two sides of the house . There are two further bedrooms, a bathroom and storage area.
